Collapsing universe brings back memories

This morning I was listening to BBC Radio 6 Music, wherein the host was talking about his regular guest, Prof. Brian Cox. The monologue surrounded the idea that entropy would finally slow down. Stop. Then reverse “like elasticated trousers”. The concept was that history would unwind itself and we would re-live our lives in reverse. A little like an episode of red dwarf from the 90’s.

It just means, when you are going about your daily life, remember, that all that stuff you do might end up coming back and hitting you in the face, and if you want a pleasant time of it in the distant future, after you have be exhumed from the grave/flames, ingested a whole load of stuff that you really don’t want to think about and before you get to see what birth is like in reverse, then be about as nice to people as you have always been.

However, if the universe is contracting and everything is going in reverse, will we gradually lose memories at a consistent rate? Of, how can we tell that entropy is slowing, as at this current state of time, our memories could actually be knowledge if what’s to come (outside of our contracting time frame.
